Costa Rica represents 5% of global biodiversity. A total of 1,077,308 hectares of the country are protected by national parks, forest reserves, and wildlife reserves. It is estimated that there are 160 species of amphibians, 205 species of mammals, and 220 species of reptiles found in Costa Rica's ecological habitats. The Guanacaste Conservation Area is located in the northwest of Costa Rica, in the province of Guanacaste.
